HOPWA

H ousing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) provides housing assistance and related supportive services, such as case management, group counseling, caregiver services and referral to low-income individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS. HOPWA aims to provide aid until stable housing arrangements can be established in the effort to reduce a household’s risk of homelessness.

Assisted households are responsible to pay approximately 30 percent of their adjusted monthly income for rent and utilities. The program pays the balance of the rent to the landlords and the balance of utilities to local utility companies. The rent plus the utility allowance must not exceed HUD's Fair Market income guideline summary.

HOPWA funds are provided by the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Department and disbursed by the City of Jacksonville. CRC has been an annual recipient since 1994.
